Challenge
Women and gender-diverse people should feel safe and welcome in public places. Standard datasets miss how streets, parks, and journeys feel day to day.
Approach
YourGround is a crowdmapping site designed by CrowdSpot with Monash University’s XYX Lab. Participants mark places that feel uneasy, scary, or unwelcome — or happy, safe, and included — so stories become visible for advocacy and change.
Outcome
Two major campaigns built a spatial evidence base for research and advocacy: YourGround Victoria in 2021 (close to 6,000 submissions with 23 LGA partners), then YourGround NSW in 2023 under Safer Cities.

YourGround Victoria
Supported by Respect Victoria, DELWP, and 23 local governments. Women and gender-diverse people mapped outdoor safety during COVID lockdowns, with LGA-level reporting for decision makers.
