Challenge

Women and gender-diverse people should feel safe and welcome in public places. Standard datasets miss how streets, parks, and journeys feel day to day.

Approach

YourGround is a crowdmapping site designed by CrowdSpot with Monash University’s XYX Lab. Victoria (2021) brought councils on as partners alongside state agencies. NSW (2023) was funded by the state government through Safer Cities — a separate campaign two years later, not two jurisdictions running at once.

Outcome

Two standalone campaigns: YourGround Victoria in 2021 (~6,000 submissions, 23 LGA partners) and YourGround NSW in 2023 under Safer Cities — each with its own funding model and partner structure.
